Kan Samer nazel ʿas-sooʾ la-yishtiri shwayyet aghrad lil-beit. W howwe mashi, shaf saḥbo Rami wāʾef ʾoddam maḥal el-khodra.

Samer was heading down to the market to buy some things for the house. While he was walking, he saw his friend Rami standing in front of the vegetable shop.

Ahleen Rami! Sho ʿam teʿmel hon?

Hey Rami! What are you doing here?

أهلين رامي! شو عم تعمل هون؟

Ahleen! Jāy eshtiri khoḍra w fawākih. W enta?

Hey! I'm here to buy some fruits and vegetables. And you?

أهلين! جاي أشتري خضرة وفواكه. وإنت؟

Ana kamān, bas biṣarāḥa ma baʿref sho baddi eshtiri.

Me too, but honestly, I don't know what to buy.

أنا كمان، بس بصراحة ما بعرف شو بدي أشتري.

They tasted the apples, and they were delicious.

والله طيب! عطينا كيلو.

Baʿd ma khallaṣo, Samer ḥaṭṭ el-agrāḍ bil-kīs w qāl:

Wow, they're good! Give us a kilo.

بعد ما خلصوا، سامر حط الأغراض بالكيس وقال

Khallaṣ, heik eshtreina kell shi.

After they finished, Samer put the groceries in the bag and said:

خلص، هيك اشترينا كل شي.

Rami ṭallaʿ bil-kīs w qāl:

That's it, we've bought everything.

رامي تطلع بالكيس وقال:

Estanna shway... wein el-baṭāṭa?

Rami looked at the bag and said:

استنى شوي… وين البطاطا؟

Samer sakat laḥẓa, w baʿdein ḍeḥek:

Wait a minute... Where are the potatoes?

سامر سكت لحظة، وبعدين ضحك:

Yā zalameh! Enta elli ʾeltelli neshtreha!

Samer was silent for a moment, then laughed:

سامر

يا زلمة! إنت اللي قلتلي نشتريها!

Baʿref, bas nseetha!

Man! You're the one who told me to buy them!

رامي

بعرف، بس نسيتها!

Ḍeḥko w rjeʿo yeshtro el-baṭāṭa.

I know, but I forgot!

ضحكوا ورجعوا يشتروا البطاطا.

W baʿd-ha mesho sawa w homme ʿam yeḥko ʿan sho bedhom yeṭbukho bil-leil.

They laughed and went back to buy the potatoes.

وبعدها مشوا سوا وهم عم يحكوا عن شو بدهم يطبخوا بالليل.

Afterwards, they walked together, talking about what they were going to cook that night.
