المَشْهَدُ 1, اللِّقاءُ الأَوَّلُ

Al-Liqāʾ al-Awwal

Scene 1: The First Meeting

كانَ أَحْمَدُ يَقِفُ في ساحَةِ الحَرَمِ وَيَنْظُرُ إِلَى الكَعْبَةِ بِخُشوعٍ وَسَعادَةٍ. كانَتْ هٰذِهِ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ يَزورُ فيها مَكَّةَ وَيَرَى الكَعْبَةَ أَمامَهُ. وَقَفَ بِجانِبِهِ رَجُلٌ اسْمُهُ عُمَرُ، وَكانَ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى الكَعْبَةِ وَيَدْعو بِهُدوءٍ.

Kāna Aḥmad yaqifu fī sāḥat al-ḥaram wa-yanẓuru ilā al-Kaʿbah bi-khushūʿin wa-saʿādah. Kānat hādhihi awwala marratin yazūru fīhā Makkah wa-yarā al-Kaʿbah amāmahu. Waqafa bijānibihi rajulun ismuhu ʿUmar, wa-kāna yanẓuru ilā al-Kaʿbah wa-yadʿū bi-hudūʾ.

Ahmed was standing in the courtyard of the Grand Mosque, looking at the Kaaba with reverence and happiness. It was his first time visiting Mecca and seeing the Kaaba in front of him. A man named Omar was standing beside him, looking at the Kaaba and quietly making dua.

00:30

أَحْمَدُ

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ.

As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa-raḥmatullāh.

Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.

00:34

عُمَرُ

وَعَلَيْكُمُ السَّلامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكاتُهُ.

Wa-ʿalaykum as-salāmu wa-raḥmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

And peace be upon you, and the mercy and blessings of Allah.

00:40

أَحْمَدُ

ما أَجْمَلَ هٰذا المَكانَ!

Mā ajmala hādhā al-makān!

What a beautiful place!

00:43

عُمَرُ

نَعَمْ، سُبْحانَ اللهِ، أَشْعُرُ هُنا بِراحَةٍ كَبيرَةٍ.

Naʿam, subḥān Allāh, ashʿuru hunā bi-rāḥatin kabīrah.

Yes, SubhanAllah. I feel a great sense of peace here.

أَحْمَدُ

هٰذِهِ أَوَّلُ مَرَّةٍ لِي عِنْدَ الكَعْبَةِ.

Hādhihi awwalu marratin lī ʿinda al-Kaʿbah.

This is my first time at the Kaaba.

00:54

عُمَرُ

ما شاءَ اللهُ، أَسْأَلُ اللهَ أَنْ يَتَقَبَّلَ مِنْكَ.

Mā shāʾ Allāh, asʾalu Allāha an yataqabbala minka.

Mashallah. May Allah accept it from you.

00:59

أَحْمَدُ

جَزاكَ اللهُ خَيْرًا. هَلْ هٰذِهِ زِيارَتُكَ الأُولى؟

Jazāka Allāhu khayran. Hal hādhihi ziyāratuka al-ūlā?

May Allah reward you. Is this your first visit?

01:05

عُمَرُ

لا، زُرْتُ مَكَّةَ مِنْ قَبْلُ، لٰكِنَّني أَشْتاقُ إِلى هٰذا المَكانِ في كُلِّ مَرَّةٍ.

Lā, zurtu Makkah min qablu, lakinnanī ashtāqu ilā hādhā al-makān fī kulli marrah.

No, I have visited Mecca before, but I miss this place every time.

قَبْلَ الطَّوافِ

Qabla al-Ṭawāf

Scene 2: Before Tawaf

بَعْدَ قَليلٍ، اقْتَرَبَ أَحْمَدُ وَعُمَرُ مِنْ مَكانِ الطَّوافِ. كانَ أَحْمَدُ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى النّاسِ وَهُمْ يَطوفونَ حَوْلَ الكَعْبَةِ، ثُمَّ سَأَلَ عُمَرَ عَنِ الطَّريقَةِ الصَّحيحَةِ لِبَدْءِ الطَّوافِ.

Baʿda qalīlin, iqtaraba Aḥmad wa-ʿUmar min makān al-ṭawāf. Kāna Aḥmad yanẓuru ilā an-nāsi wa-hum yaṭūfūna ḥawla al-Kaʿbah, thumma saʾala ʿUmara ʿani aṭ-ṭarīqati aṣ-ṣaḥīḥati li-badʾi al-ṭawāf.

After a short while, Ahmed and Omar approached the area of tawaf. Ahmed watched the people walking around the Kaaba and then asked Omar about the correct way to begin.

01:32

أَحْمَدُ

أُريدُ أَنْ أَبْدَأَ الطَّوافَ، لٰكِنَّني لا أَعْرِفُ ماذا أَفْعَلُ أَوَّلًا.

Urīdu an abdaʾa al-ṭawāf, lakinnanī lā aʿrifu mādhā afʿalu awwalan.

I want to start tawaf, but I don’t know what I should do first.

01:39

عُمَرُ

لا تَقْلَقْ، الأَمْرُ بَسيطٌ. ابْدَأْ مِنْ جِهَةِ الحَجَرِ الأَسْوَدِ، وَاذْكُرِ اللهَ وَادْعُ بِما تُريدُ.

Lā taqlaq، al-amru basīṭ. Ibdaʾ min jihati al-ḥajari al-aswad, wa-udhkur Allāha wa-udʿu bimā turīd.

Don’t worry. It’s simple. Start from the side of the Black Stone, remember Allah, and make dua for whatever you wish.

أَحْمَدُ

هَلْ يَجِبُ أَنْ أَقولَ دُعاءً مُعَيَّنًا في كُلِّ شَوْطٍ؟

Hal yajibu an aqūla duʿāʾan muʿayyanan fī kulli shawṭ?

Do I have to say a specific dua during every round?

01:55

عُمَرُ

لا، يُمْكِنُكَ أَنْ تَدْعُوَ بِما في قَلْبِكَ.

Lā, yumkinuka an tadʿū bimā fī qalbik.

No. You can make any dua that is in your heart.

02:00

أَحْمَدُ

جَميلٌ، هٰذا يَجْعَلُ الأَمْرَ أَسْهَلَ.

Jamīl, hādhā yajʿalu al-amra ashal.

That’s good. It makes things easier.

02:04

عُمَرُ

نَعَمْ، المُهِمُّ أَنْ يَكونَ قَلْبُكَ حاضِرًا وَأَنْ تَذْكُرَ اللهَ.

Naʿam, al-muhimmu an yakūna qalbuka ḥāḍiran wa-an tadhkura Allāh.

Yes. The important thing is for your heart to be present and for you to remember Allah.

02:09

ثُمَّ بَدَأَ الاثْنانِ الطَّوافَ مَعَ النّاسِ.

Thumma badaʾa al-ithnāni al-ṭawāfa maʿa an-nās.

Then the two of them began tawaf with the other people.

Scene 3: After Tawaf

بَعْدَ أَنْ انْتَهى أَحْمَدُ وَعُمَرُ مِنَ الطَّوافِ، جَلَسا قَليلًا لِيَسْتَريحا. كانَ أَحْمَدُ مُتْعَبًا، لٰكِنَّهُ كانَ سَعيدًا جِدًّا.

Baʿda an intahā Aḥmad wa-ʿUmar mina al-ṭawāf, jalasā qalīlan li-yastarīḥā. Kāna Aḥmad mutʿaban, lakinnahu kāna saʿīdan jiddan.

After Ahmed and Omar finished tawaf, they sat down for a while to rest. Ahmed was tired, but he was very happy.

02:30

أَحْمَدُ

الحَمْدُ للهِ، أَشْعُرُ بِراحَةٍ كَبيرَةٍ الآنَ.

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, ashʿuru bi-rāḥatin kabīratin al-āna.

Alhamdulillah, I feel a great sense of peace now.

02:36

عُمَرُ

نَعَمْ، الطَّوافُ قَدْ يُتْعِبُ الجَسَدَ، لٰكِنَّهُ يُريحُ القَلْبَ.

Naʿam, al-ṭawāfu qad yutʿibu al-jasad, lakinnahu yurīḥu al-qalb.

Yes. Tawaf may tire the body, but it gives comfort to the heart.

02:43

أَحْمَدُ

أَشْعُرُ أَنَّني لَنْ أَنْسى هٰذِهِ اللَّحَظاتِ أَبَدًا.

Ashʿuru annanī lan ansā hādhihi al-laḥaẓāti abadan.

I feel like I will never forget these moments.

02:49

عُمَرُ

وَأَنا أَشْعُرُ بِهٰذا في كُلِّ مَرَّةٍ أَزورُ فيها الكَعْبَةَ.

Wa-anā ashʿuru bi-hādhā fī kulli marratin azūru fīhā al-Kaʿbah.

I feel the same way every time I visit the Kaaba.

02:55

أَحْمَدُ

هَلْ نَذْهَبُ لِنَشْرَبَ ماءَ زَمْزَمَ؟

Hal nadhhabu li-nashraba māʾa Zamzam?

Shall we go and drink Zamzam water?

02:59

عُمَرُ

نَعَمْ، هَيّا بِنا.

Naʿam, hayyā binā.

Yes, let’s go.

03:03

أَحْمَدُ

سَمِعْتُ كَثيرًا عَنْ ماءِ زَمْزَمَ.

Samiʿtu kathīran ʿan māʾi Zamzam.

I’ve heard a lot about Zamzam water.

03:08

عُمَرُ

نَعَمْ، اشْرَبْ مِنْهُ وَادْعُ اللهَ بِما تُحِبُّ.

Naʿam, ishrab minhu wa-udʿu Allāha bimā tuḥibb.

Yes. Drink from it and ask Allah for whatever you wish.

03:12

ذَهَبا مَعًا وَشَرِبا مِنْ ماءِ زَمْزَمَ.

Dhahabā maʿan wa-sharibā min māʾi Zamzam.

They went together and drank Zamzam water.

قَبْلَ الوَداعِ

Qabla al-Wadāʿ

Scene 4: Before Saying Goodbye

03:20

بَعْدَ ذٰلِكَ، وَقَفَ أَحْمَدُ وَعُمَرُ مَرَّةً أُخْرى أَمامَ الكَعْبَةِ. نَظَرَ أَحْمَدُ إِلَيْها طَويلًا، ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ إِلى عُمَرَ.

Baʿda dhālika, waqafa Aḥmad wa-ʿUmar marratan ukhrā amāma al-Kaʿbah. Naẓara Aḥmad ilayhā ṭawīlan, thumma iltafata ilā ʿUmar.

After that, Ahmed and Omar stood once again in front of the Kaaba. Ahmed looked at it for a long time and then turned to Omar.

03:32

أَحْمَدُ

أَنا سَعيدٌ لِأَنَّني تَعَرَّفْتُ إِلَيْكَ اليَوْمَ.

Anā saʿīd li-annanī taʿarraftu ilayka al-yawm.

I’m happy that I met you today.

03:37

عُمَرُ

وَأَنا أَيْضًا سَعيدٌ بِمَعْرِفَتِكَ.

Wa-anā ayḍan saʿīdun bi-maʿrifatik.

I’m happy to have met you too.

03:41

أَحْمَدُ

أَتَمَنّى أَنْ نَلْتَقِيَ هُنا مَرَّةً أُخْرى.

Atamannā an naltaqiya hunā marratan ukhrā.

I hope we meet here again one day.

03:46

عُمَرُ

إِنْ شاءَ اللهُ، وَأَسْأَلُ اللهَ أَنْ يَرْزُقَنا زِيارَةَ هٰذا المَكانِ مَرّاتٍ كَثيرَةً.

In shāʾ Allāh, wa-asʾalu Allāha an yarzuqanā ziyārata hādhā al-makān marrātin kathīrah.

Inshallah. I ask Allah to allow us to visit this place many more times.

03:55

أَحْمَدُ

آمينَ. أَسْأَلُ اللهَ أَنْ يَتَقَبَّلَ مِنّا جَميعًا.

Āmīn. Asʾalu Allāha an yataqabbala minnā jamīʿan.

Ameen. May Allah accept from all of us.

04:00

عُمَرُ

آمينَ يا رَبَّ العالَمينَ.

Āmīn yā Rabba al-ʿālamīn.

Ameen, Lord of the worlds.

04:05

أَحْمَدُ

إِلَى اللِّقاءِ يا عُمَرُ.

Ilā al-liqāʾ yā ʿUmar.

See you again, Omar.

04:08

عُمَرُ

في أَمانِ اللهِ يا أَحْمَدُ.

Fī amāni Allāh yā Aḥmad.

May Allah protect you, Ahmed.

04:11

افْتَرَقَ الرَّجُلانِ بَعْدَ ذٰلِكَ، لٰكِنَّ لِقاءَهُما عِنْدَ الكَعْبَةِ بَقِيَ ذِكْرى جَميلَةً في قَلْبَيْهِما.

Iftaraqa ar-rajulāni baʿda dhālika, lakinna liqāʾahumā ʿinda al-Kaʿbah baqiya dhikrā jamīlatan fī qalbayhimā.

The two men then went their separate ways, but their meeting at the Kaaba remained a beautiful memory in both of their hearts.
